Due to this region's hot, humid, and dangerous summer climate, the UAE Government has imposed a mandatory rest period from 15 June to 15 September every year. During this time, the temperature can rise to 50 degrees Celsius, and the humidity can grow to 90%, drastically increasing the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, especially for persons working outside between 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
As workers in the construction sector predominantly work outside, it is, therefore, essential to protect them against the risks & effects of heat and humidity during this period. Various mandatory measures have to be implemented for worker protection, including training & awareness programs, chilled water drinking stations, rehydration supplements, and cooled rest areas, to name but a few.
All of this forms part of a Heat Stress Awareness Campaign to ensure our workers and staff can identify the causes & symptoms of heat stress and know the precautions they need to take to prevent them from suffering.
ECC uses various training and awareness aids, like internal training sessions & Toolbox talks, informative & warning signage, heat stress & urine charts, temperature & humidity recording, heat stress signaling systems, and heat stress mock drills. ECC also receives training and awareness support from the rehydration supplement suppliers and 3rd party training providers to help educate our staff and workers on the dangers and preventative measures necessary to work safely during the hot and humid weather.
